Shipping
How will my order ship?
Enjoy free domestic shipping on all orders. Your purchase supports the USPS by shipping via Ground Advantage.
Orders ship within 1–2 business days from Brooklyn, New York, with an expected delivery time of 2–5 business days. A notification email will be sent with tracking once your order has shipped.
Please ensure the delivery location is secure. Once an order is marked as delivered, we are not responsible for lost or stolen packages.
USPS Ground Advantage includes up to $100 of insurance. For shipping options outside of standard delivery, including expedited shipping or additional insurance coverage, please email us at hello@shopsubjectmatter.com prior to checkout for a quote.
Do orders ship internationally?
We're happy to serve customers worldwide. Please email us at hello@shopsubjectmatter.com for an international UPS shipping quote prior to placing your order.
Do orders ship in recycled packaging?
All orders ship in 100 percent recycled, plastic-free packaging. We encourage our customers to please recycle any materials that they do not plan to reuse.
Can I pick up my order?
Local pickup is available by request in New York City, with locations including Maria Hernandez Park and Union Square. Please visit our Local Pickup page for details and next steps.
Returns
How do I initiate a return?
To request a return, please contact us within 3 days of delivery. Items must be returned in the condition they were received and shipped back within 3 business days of approval. When reaching out, please include your order number and reason for the return.
Who pays for return shipping?
The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs. Once a return request is approved, we will confirm the refund amount minus the cost of return shipping. After confirmation, we will provide a return shipping label and instructions. Return shipping costs can be estimated through USPS using destination zip code 11206.
When will I receive my refund?
We’ll notify you once your return has been received and inspected. Approved refunds are processed within 10 business days to the original payment method. Please allow additional time for your bank or credit card company to finalize the refund. If it has been more than 15 business days since approval, please contact us.
Which items are final sale?
We do not accept returns for items purchased at events or through our retail partners, including Everything’s Fine Vintage and sadbsh. Sale items and gift cards are also final sale.

How can I determine my size?
Due to the uniqueness of each piece, we include detailed garment measurements along with a range of standard sizes the item should fit. Measurements are taken in inches with the garment lying flat and doubled for bust, waist, and hips. We recommend comparing these measurements to a similar item you already own.
Where can I find the description of an item's condition?
The condition of each item is listed in the item description. Prior to sale, all pieces are mended and hand-washed or cleaned. We do our best to note any imperfections, though minor signs of wear may be present due to the preloved nature of each piece.
How often are new pieces added?
New pieces are added regularly, often in small batches. Inventory is limited and one of a kind.
Are pieces restocked once they sell?
Most items are one of a kind and are not restocked once sold. A broader inventory is available beyond what is listed online, and specific requests are kept in mind when sourcing.
How can I care for my preloved pieces?
We recommend using a delicate cycle or handwashing most vintage pieces, using cold water and gentle detergents. Line drying and steaming are preferred over frequent dry cleaning.
For synthetic fabrics, using a GUPPYFRIEND washing bag can help reduce microfiber shedding.
