Shipping
How will my order ship?
Your order supports the USPS by shipping Priority Mail. Enjoy free domestic shipping on orders $75+. All orders under $75 ship with $10 flat rate shipping.
Orders are shipped in 1-2 business days from Brooklyn, New York with an expected delivery of 3-5 business days. A notification email will be sent with tracking once the order has shipped.
Please ensure that the delivery location is secure for packages as we are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
All orders under $100 are insured for free by the USPS. To ensure safe delivery of items over $100, we recommend purchasing shipping insurance. Please email us at hello@shopsubjectmatter.com to request a quote prior to placing your order.
Do orders ship internationally?
We're happy to serve customers worldwide. Please email us at hello@shopsubjectmatter.com for an international UPS shipping quote.
Do orders ship in recycled packaging?
All orders ship in 100 percent recycled content, plastic-free packaging. We encourage our customers to please recycle any materials that they do not plan to reuse.
Can I pick up my order?
We’d love to meet you in person! All items are available for pick up at Maria Hernandez Park and Union Square in New York City.
Please select either local pick up option at checkout. Upon submission of your order, we will email you to schedule pick up or you may contact us by completing this form.
Orders must be picked up within 14 days of purchase.
Returns
How do I initiate a return?
To request a return, please contact us within 3 days of delivery. Items must be returned in the condition they were received and shipped back within 3 business days of contacting us. Please email your order number and reason for the return to hello@shopsubjectmatter.com.
Who pays for return shipping?
The buyer covers return shipping costs. Once a return request is made, we'll inform the buyer of the refund amount minus shipping. After confirmation from the buyer, we'll provide a return shipping label and instructions. Estimate return shipping costs at USPS using mail from zip code 11206.
When will I receive my refund?
We'll notify you upon receiving and inspecting your return to confirm if the refund is approved. Approved refunds are processed within 10 business days to your original payment method. Please allow additional time for your bank or credit card company to finalize the refund. If it's been over 15 business days since approval, please email us at hello@shopsubjectmatter.com.
Which items are final sale?
We do not accept returns for items purchased at pop-ups or at our retail partner, Everything's Fine Vintage. We do not accept returns on sale items or gift cards.

How can I determine my size?
Due to the uniqueness of each piece, we include the garment measurements and a range of standard sizes that the item should fit. Each measurement is taken in inches, seam-to-seam with the garment lying flat, and doubled for bust, waist, and hips. We recommend comparing these measurements to a similar item you own. Where can I find the description of an item's condition?
The condition of each item is listed in the item description. Prior to sale, all of our pieces are mended and hand-washed or professionally cleaned. We do our best to note any imperfections, however, there may be small flaws that we overlooked. Each piece is preloved and therefore may have natural wear.

How can I care for my preloved pieces?
We recommend using a delicate cycle for preloved clothing and handwashing most vintage clothing. Prior to sale, all of our pieces are hand-washed or professionally cleaned. For hand-washing, we recommend using this biodegradable, no-rinse soap and cold water to minimize stress on the fabric and limit water use. For professional cleaning, we recommend locating an eco-friendly dry cleaners.
For pieces made of synthetic fabrics, investing in a GUPPYFRIEND washing bag can prevent microfibers from shedding and polluting our water. Line-dry your pieces to prolong the garment’s shape and hand.
To remove any wrinkles, a hand steamer is more effective and less expensive than alternatives such as dry cleaning. Dry cleaning has harsh implications for the environment, ages fibers more quickly, and does not always remove stains or smells. We recommend using an eco-friendly dry cleaners only when necessary.
